Preparing for your Great Shot Family Portrait Sessions
Consultation/Expectations
Before the day of your shoot, meet with us explain what your expectations are for the session.
Discuss the purpose of the photo shoot. Are you updating an outdated family portrait? Are photos to
be given to extended family and friends, or just for personal in-home display. Are you creating
Greeting cards or other keepsakes? Do you prefer a formal, more posed photograph where the
family is all dressed up in their "Sunday Best" or the relaxed casual atmosphere? The answer to
these questions will assist your photographer in getting the most for you out of your photo shoot.
Attire
This is the fun part. There are many options to consider but follow these guidelines to ensure the
best out of your photos.
1. Choose solid colors. Prints and other designs can become distracting
2. Try to be coordinated. A popular options is for the entire family to wear white tops and either blue
denim or khaki bottoms. Families have also opted for a more modern and edgy all black look shot
against a black backdrop for dramatic effect.
3. Try to avoid distracting accessories such as large earrings and larger hair adornments
4. Darker colors tend to be slenderizing
5. Select clothing that will flatter all members of your family. For instance, most people photograph
better in long sleeves than short-sleeved or sleeveless tops. Long pants or jeans are usually more
flattering than shorts.
Grooming
Get haircuts, shave, and visit your salon. Don't try to experiment with new looks or makeup the day of
your photo shoot. Ensure that nail polish is not chipped and that it all works well with the tone of the
photos.
Before The Photo Shoot
1. Ensure that everyone has a goods nights rest
2. Ensure that everyone has eaten prior to the shoot to avoid that restlessness caused by hunger
3. Because you choose your location, we want you to be relaxed and prepared to have a great time.
